Help Us Take the First Step Toward a Turf Field at MUHS!
As this spring has made clear once again, it is incredibly challenging for our athletes to compete when they don’t have consistent, playable fields. This is especially true for our boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams, who must often practice at 6:00 a.m. at Middlebury College for the first several weeks of the season due to unplayable home fields. Wet conditions also result in multiple canceled practices and games each year—a frustrating and limiting experience for teams with a proud history of state championships and college-bound athletes.
While we have several long-term goals, this is our top priority: building a turf field that provides a consistent, safe, and reliable space for all spring sports.
The First Step: An Updated Environmental Study
In order to move forward, we must complete a new environmental study. The last one was conducted 15 years ago and is now outdated. To cover the cost for this study and associated expenses, we are setting a fundraising goal of $25,000. We need your help to get there!
Our immediate goal is to raise $25,000 by August 1 to commission the study this fall and present the results to the ACSD Board in spring 2026. This timeline positions us to seek full funding and begin construction in the summer of 2026.
We have already secured $5,000 in pledged donations and a commitment for a matching donation to our overall fundraising effort. There is an incredible amount of community momentum behind this effort and we want you to be part of it! Join us by make donations of any amount at https://www.middlax.com/donate.
Why This Matters
This is more than a field—it’s a commitment to our student-athletes and the values we all share: equity, access, and excellence in youth sports. A turf field would dramatically improve the quality and consistency of spring sports in Middlebury for years to come!
This is the first priority in a broader strategy for FOML and MYLC, but right now we are only asking for support on this important initiative. Other projects, like new nets or a storage shed, will be handled separately so that this campaign maintains clarity and urgency.
Next Steps
Please feel free to reach out if you have questions or would like to discuss how to get more involved. Together, we can take a major step forward for our athletes and community!
